Roads are transportation infrastructure that play a vital role in supporting economic, social, and cultural activities. The continuous growth of traffic volumes puts significant pressure on the quality of road pavements, resulting in poor road conditions that can reduce driving safety and increase vehicle operating costs. This study aims to evaluate the condition of road surface damage in Tanjung Serdang, Kotabaru, using the Surface Distress Index (SDI) method as a basis for formulating road maintenance strategies. The SDI method is used because it is able to systematically identify various types and levels of road surface damage. Data collection was conducted through visual surveys on each road segment, classifying the type of damage and calculating the affected area. The calculation results indicate that the road surface is generally in good condition, with SDI values for segments 1 and 2 of 5 and segment 3 of 20. Although no segments are below good condition, the higher SDI value in segment 3 is an important note for more intensive monitoring. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that this road section is still suitable for use, and preventive maintenance recommendations are expected to extend the service life of the road and support smooth community mobility.
